Thank Goodness I'm a Dog Person...

Look at my furbaby Apollo -- isn't she the prettiest dog ever? I just love my pup! The poor girl is slowing down more and more each day, but she's hanging in there. Aside from very obvious trouble with arthritis (it's almost painful to watch her get up and down sometimes) -- she seems to be okay. We have been bracing ourselves for several months now that the end may be near -- the vet thinks she has liver disease or a tumor of some sort. But so far, she's hanging on and we just keep hoping she'll be with us for as long as possible. I have no idea how the older kids will handle it when something does happen. Not to mention me....I will most certainly be a mess! As crazy as it may sound, Apollo has been a huge comfort to me during some of my worst moments (like my miscarriage) -- and I can't imagine life without her around.

Anyway -- the real reason I am writing about dogs today is because of a neighbor who lives up the street and behind us. I don't know these neighbors, but they have a pen with dogs that bark pretty much ALL the time. And sometimes, it doesn't sound too good. It sounds like the dogs are fighting -- or in pain -- or just neglected. And I keep thinking I need to go snoop around and see if the dogs appear to be in bad shape. But I haven't done it -- because I also wonder if maybe I've seen one too many episodes of Animal Cops and am just imagining things. I hate to stick my nose where it doesn't belong -- but I also hate the thought of animals being mistreated or not cared for. I also am SURE the noisy dogs must be bothering some people in our neighborhood. Not everyone enjoys constant barking. I can usually tune it out -- but there are times when it's pretty annoying. Would you go check it out if you were me? I'm not quite sure how to do it without trespassing.

And since I'm rambling about dogs....can someone please explain to me the concept of having an "outside dog". I really don't get it. If you have a pet -- why would you keep it outside all the time? I guess if you live on a farm or in the country maybe. But I really cannot imagine having a dog and keeping it outside all the time. It doesn't make sense to me. So -- I am not being judgmental -- I am truly wondering if someone can explain it to me! LOL

Okay -- I am on my way to the vet right now with my dog, so it's time for me to quit rambling about them!

Have a great day and enjoy the weekend!

She's a bute! I would love to have a nice big fluffy dog, but really don't want to clean up the poop. I hope she will hang on. I remember when my dog had our German Shepherd put down when I was 12. It truly felt like the end of my world.

We had outside animals all the time growing up in CA, but that isn't hard when the weather is so nice for them to enjoy all the time.

But, really, if they are a pet, shouldn't they be inside sometimes, at least...I am with you.

Now, I am the rambling one.

Have a good day.

Rita,
She's SO pretty! I think that every time I see a pic of her!

My dad lives in Texas, and he has an "outside" dog. He's kinda like a guard dog. They have a dog house for him, and he's NEVER short on lovins from anyone, not with a face like he has (SO SWEET) but he is strictly kept outdoors. They do live kinda out in the country.

In Michigan and places where it can get REALLY cold, I don't think there should be such a thing as a strictly "outside" dog. That is cruel and inhuman to keep a dog outdoors in that weather, even with a doggie house.

Goodness I just want to give Apollo a big ole squeeze. She has the most expressive eyes ever!!! And her cute smile looks like she's holding in a secret and wants to spill the beans.
I really know what you're feeling...I'm having concerns about my baby too...Barq's can't get on my bed lately and I can see he's not the young pup he was just a year ago (it feels) I'll be getting him to the vet soon too as his fatty lumps feel different, so I really can commiserate. Makes me sooo sad. I dread the day. I'm here anytime you need an ear. We can trade stories.

I don't get the outside dog thing either, even tho we had a outside hunting dog when I was little. It seemed a lot of people did back then. He was a beagle and was super pampered. We would go hang out in his coop with him. It was pretty luxurious as my dad was a carpenter and built it. It even had real shingles on it LOL.

As far as the neighbors dogs, I would probably give a call to the Animal Control in your area, they can check it out and I think you can be annonymous. It wouldn't hurt.

What a great photo of Apollo! Such a pretty doggie. I understand how hard it is when they age on us, and we never want to really face that their time may approached, and how the feeling will be afterwards. I know how we answered this one, and it was with a new dog. Although I'm not sure if it is a wise one or not, but I do know the empty feeling goes away faster.

As for outside dogs, don't understand it, because I have own only indoor dogs, or how we want our dog to be. But my sister has dogs who live outside, but they have their own house, and I mean a house, and it's even heated. But what you described in your post, I think I would be worried about those ones that are by you. I would never let an animal live like that.

Apollo looks beautiful in her photo, Lucky sends lots of puppy love.
I sure would never have an outside dog, I like to cuddle inside with my fury pets.
