Are you sick of photos of my youngest yet?? If so, I apologize -- but I took about eight or ten of him playing outside last night and in every single one, he made some crazy, cheesy, silly face -- so I thought I'd share a few. What a goofball! You should be able to click on them to get the full effect of "cheeziness"!
Many of the photos I've been taking outside lately include bubbles. What a great invention! My kids could spend hours playing with bubbles and bubble toys (the two youngest ones anyway!). We have quite a variety of bubble toys. I love 'em because they keep the kids entertained, bubbles are pretty inexpensive and the toys make minimal noise. Much better than reggae-playing tambourines (as mentioned in one of my recent posts!)
And speaking of things that are inexpensive...let's talk about penny pinching.
Being a one income family with three kids, it's not always easy making ends meet. We are able to pay our bills and do fun things now and again, but we don't have a lot of extra money for things like vacations or amusement parks or things for our kids that a lot of other kids have. I don't feel that my children are hurting or missing out -- they have plenty of fun without spending money - but sometimes it sure would be nice to feel like we could take a trip or let our kids take a class or go to a camp or whatever without having to set ourselves back.
I am a firm believer in being smart with your money -- and I'm not usually a big shopper or spender anyway. But I also believe in the "you can't take it with you" philosophy. I would much rather take my kids to a movie and have a great afternoon once in a while than worry about the fact that I've just spent $20 on tickets and snacks. My hubby on the other hand will say, "This kids movie is only 88 minutes long. Is it worth a $6 ticket??" He HATES spending money. I guess in the back of my head I'm always thinking -- if something should happen to me tomorrow, would I rather have spent a fun afternoon at the movies with my kids -- or would I rather have saved $20?? If we did it every weekend, that would be one thing. But we don't, so to me -- it's not a big deal. No sense in overthinking it -- just go have some fun and move on, right??
I think it's normal to wish for things you don't have -- but I also think it's important to always remember that money and "things" do not bring happiness. Yes, money is a necessity and it can make life a little easier. But it isn't going to make your life complete. Besides -- to me, what is the point of working if you can't enjoy yourself once in a while without stressing out about how much it is costing you? It's not worth it. Life is just too short.
Somehow it's Wednesday already -- I hope you're enjoying your week! I realized the other day that it has been AGES since I did one of my random act of kindness prompts on my blog, so I may try to sneak one in every now and then. Be on the lookout -- I'll try to post one before the end of the week!
Chat with you soon!

If you needed money to buy happiness, I may have to wait for a very long time!
Kids are a great reminder that the simple things in life provide the greatest happiness....bubbles lead to children's laughs which lead to the greatest happiness I have as a mother.
I say buy the darn movie ticket and live happily!
That's what this life is all about. As long as you have your family, a roof over your head and food in your tummy, and enjoy everyday as if it is your last, you are truly living, and if you have extra toys in the toy chest, then hey you have extra toys in your toy chest, in the game of life, it really isn't about who has the most "Toys" it's why you have those toys and how you'll use those toys. So if spending time at a movie theater bring you and the family happiness, it is money & time well spent, and you are not to worry what the price tag was, if you do, you are just sweating the small stuff. So Stop and Enjoy! And, girlie I know you are teaching the kiddies the right way to live life... wink!
What cute pictures! Kids crack me up - my nephew always tilts his head for pictures - too funny. I love the goofy faces! As for the money thing - you are so right. My husband is much more of a saver than I am, which is good, because it's made me more smart with my money, but at the same time, I'm of the same philosophy. Use some of it and have a little fun once in a while! BTW, thanks for the very awesome RAK - you are the best!!
Yeppers I agree, you never know what tomorrow will bring, have fun while you can. I'm getting more frugal as the years go buy, but oh boy, I sure don't hesitate to spend some and have good memories LOL! I figure if I save a buck somewhere I can spend it having fun! Good philosophy in my eyes LOL
what cute photos and I penny pinch but I also at times need to spend a little, have to keep the ecomony going. It is very hard with dh only getting a very tiny check.
As for fun you can make your own fun and as long as the family plays well together. LOL
