My One & Only Political Post

I do not like to talk politics on my blog, or anywhere really. I'm not an expert, nor do I want to push my views on anyone. But I'm going to say a couple of things right here -- just this once. It is basically me venting, so please -- take no offense to my ranting and raving. I am now stepping on my soap box....

First, can I just say how much I DON'T CARE ABOUT CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENTS!?!?!?! It really gets under my skin that a big deal is made about them. Do I care who Susan Sarandon is voting for? Will I vote for someone because Oprah or George Clooney thinks I should?? NO! I will vote for whomever I feel will best serve this country based on my own beliefs and convictions. Oprah can recommend a book to me -- she can tell me how I can help other human beings or bring an end to puppy mills -- but don't expect me to vote for someone because she or any other "celebrity" tells me I should.

Next -- the media drives me crazy! There just always has to be drama. I am not an advocate of teen pregnancy -- but personally, I do not feel Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy is any reflection of what type of VP Sarah Palin will be. Nor do I care that her husband had a DUI many, many years ago in his twenties. Are they expected to be perfect?? Do we really think they didn't ever make any type of mistakes in the past? Are they supposed to be superheroes?? I know there are PLENTY of things I did in my early twenties that I am not proud of and would never repeat again. (Thank goodness I'm not running for office! hee hee..)

But it's called growing up -- making mistakes and the wrong choices and learning from them. Give them a break.

It especially irks me because Bill Clinton cheated while IN office -- initially LIED about it -- and yet people still admire and adore him and pay him tons of money to speak. His wife can stand by his side, run for president and all of the Monica Lewinsky crap is forgotten. Give me a break. And quit looking for stupid petty things to make the candidates look bad. Shouldn't we be focusing on what they are promising to bring to the table right now if they are elected? Shouldn't we be looking at their past political history and voting records?

In my opinion there is NO perfect candidate. I don't really trust any politician 100%. They make their promises and we have to make our choices based on our own belief system and who we HOPE will lead our country with integrity and to the best of their ability.

I hope I have not offended anyone -- it was not my intent. I just had to get that off my chest. I want to be informed when I vote, but trying to read the news or watch it on TV is like wading through a ridiculous three-ring circus and it gets me fired up sometimes. (Can you tell??? LOL)

I am now stepping off my soap box. My next post will be much calmer! :)

I have one word for you.......3x

AMEN....AMEN....AMEN

In my opinion, they all tell us what we want to hear.

I also agree with "their past is the past". Give it up. We are all human. It takes all of us to make a change, not one man (or woman).

Good Post

I second that AMEN!! I agree with everything you just said. It gets me fired up sometimes and I am not a US citizen yet! I am not a fan of politics at all but for some reason this election has had my attention....I think we're in for some interesting years to come!

I LOVE this new in your face side of you, Rita! :) Your politics talk are right down my alley.

I don't think I am an expert either and I always try to push my beliefs on people, so I am SO glad that I totally agree with you or I would have to try and change your mind.

Just because someone's teenage daughter is pregnant, it does not mean that the parent is bad, nor does it mean the teenager is bad...people make bad choices...it's a fact of life...and one that makes me so grateful to be a Christian....I know how to make my wrongs right and I want to allow others to do the same.

And I Sooooo HATE celebrity endorsements. In fact, I hate any endorsements really, and can we just get some nonbiased reporting so that we can get all the important facts from BOTH sides?

And, can we hold people accountable for what they do in office and not what they did in college? I cannot believe that we live in a country full of Clinton lovers...I cannot think of any person that has made me embarassed for my country any more than Bill Clinton!

And, you may have to erase this comment to not offend your readers :) I won't mind.

Don't worry Alice -- I'm not erasing your comment -- your opinion is welcome here! :)

You go girl! I'm with you all the way - you can't judge what kind of a VP someone will be because of her daughter's actions any more than you can judge what kind of a President someone will be because of things his pastor says. The only thing you can hold someone accountable for is his or her own actions. I totally agree - I think any time we elect a President, we take the lesser of two evils. There's a great quote by Douglas Adams that goes something along the lines of "Anyone capable of getting themselves elected President should by no means be allowed to do the job." I probably mangled it, but the sentiment is so true!

Rita - ITA!!! And don't feel you have to apologize to anyone for feelings you said on your blog. You didn't say anything offensive.

The media really, really aggravates me sometimes. And don't get me started on celebrity political wannabee's. (sigh)

NO BODY is perfect. No one. And that's ok.

Hey, what the heck good is your blog if you can't soapbox! It's a great place to get out your thoughts/frustrations out!!!

I so agree with the celebrity endorsements, I couldn't give a rats behind what they think.

I'm a political junkie tho and it's so tough trying to feed thru the bs to get the real info...everyone wants to spin a tale. I feel like screaming to the tv .... I want hard core honest FACTS, not your "opinion" EVERY doggone station thinks they are better than the other.
I stick to my convictions with my vote.

Hope you're feeling better soon (((hugs)))
