Last week my kids were on Spring Break. We were so busy all week long and I am so glad to be getting back into some sort of routine this week. We had fun -- but I was worn out by Friday!
A recap of our week -- my kids went roller skating for the first time (I hadn't been to a skating rink in YEARS! I think they all look exactly the same -- bad carpet, disco ball, colored lights on the ceiling...), we went to Chuck E. Cheese (always an adventure), we went to the zoo, out to eat, to the movies -- and of course we still had soccer practice & games, dance/gymnastics class and all the usual things to deal with -- whew! I'm getting tired just thinking about it.
Even my oldest son (who tends to feel like he's being cheated out of something if we aren't constantly having adventures!) said to me, "I have had a wicked Spring Break!"
(I then asked him if he knew what that meant -- to which he replied very timidly... "Well, not really..." But he knew it meant something good! LOL!)
This week I simply MUST get my house in order. It's a little mini disaster after last week. I thought I was getting things back on track this past weekend, but no...it's still a disaster as I look around this morning.
On a completely unrelated note -- my DH and I watched the movie "World Trade Center" last night. WOW! It was so well done. I told DH we need to buy the movie and watch it whenever we need a reality check -- a reminder of how truly blessed we are and how life can change in a matter of moments. Watching the film, I felt angry at the evil that took place on September 11th, but also so moved by the kindness and goodness that occurred. So many people helping each other out -- complete strangers drawn together by an unthinkable tragedy. There are so many times when I feel like the evil outweighs the good in this world -- it's nice to be reminded of goodness.
So I really must get moving this morning, but I think you need a new quote since I have been absent for so many days. I chose patience as my topic today -- because it's something I CONSTANTLY need to work on!
"If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow." ~ Chinese epigram
Have a great week!

I love this quote...
Hope you do too...

Ah the joys of daylight savings...
It is nearly 8:30am and my two youngest children are still sleeping!!! What is going on?? I would have to say thank you to daylight savings time I think. It was still a little dark up until about 15 or 20 minutes ago. I would guess it's helping them sleep! So I have enjoyed not one -- but TWO cups of coffee in complete quiet. Ahhhh....
(I'm sure this will all change by tomorrow!)
Yet another week begins...another week of hoping I'll get caught up on some things -- get some things organized, start some new projects. I think we're done with the majority of our winter weather (knock on wood), and I feel the Spring cleaning bug starting to set in. I even feel a possible garage sale coming on if I can pull it off. We have entirely too much stuff that we just don't need.
The past week or so I've been thinking a lot about how I have really let go of doing things for myself to recharge. Honestly -- when I think about it too much, it almost makes me sad. I feel like I've become so -- blah and boring -- like I've lost some pieces of what makes me who I am. I don't say this in a material sense -- like I need to have more "stuff" and I certainly don't mean to sound selfish. I just know I am not doing a lot of the things I would like to -- that would make me feel better about myself. I have decided I need to try to incorporate little things here and there in my life, as much as I possibly can, to get back to some things that are really important to me. How I will do it, I don't know, but I've got to do something.
I found this quote this morning and thought it was so fitting for how I am feeling.
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hope you have a great week!

Certain Moments
Do you ever have those moments when you look at something and think...wow...I better enjoy this because it's not going to be like this forever.
I have had a couple of those in the past month or so. When for some reason I just stopped in my tracks and looked at the situation and felt so happy to have the moment.
Both times, it was just the fact that all three of my children were hanging out, content as can be with each other. Once they were watching cartoons and my DH and I happened to be hanging out with them. The dog was right in the middle of all of us. It was quiet and still and we were all just together -- content and happy. No one talking or wrestling or whining or rushing to get somewhere. As the kids get older, I'm sure these moments will become fewer and I don't want to miss out on them now.
Maybe it's because my oldest child is getting so big and we seem to be so much busier these days, that I feel the need to really hang on to these moments. I am a homebody by nature and just so appreciative of the times we can be home, doing nothing in particular and just enjoying each others company.
On the same note -- here is my quote for today -- I'm sure you've heard it before, but I've always liked it --
"Where we love is home -- home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
Remember to enjoy the "moments" at your house. I'm guilty of letting them pass me by more often then I should -- but I hope to work harder at realizing and enjoying them.

Short and sweet today...
Since I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging, I didn't want to skip a day. But I don't have much time right now, so I will just share a quote about friendship from Miss Oprah Winfrey --
"Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down."
Ain't that the truth??

The Summer of George
Any Seinfeld fans out there?? Do you remember the one where George declared it "The Summer of George"? I think that's what I need..."The Spring of Rita" or something to snap me out of my mini-funk and get my mojo flowing. It just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Summer of George" though! And we all know how things usually turn out for George, so maybe I don't want to follow his lead! LOL
I am determined to start blogging more -- and maybe I need to spice up this blog a little. It's kind of boring, isn't it -- no pictures or what not....I'll add that to my list of things to work on!
For today, I'm sharing a quote as promised...I just ran across this one and don't recall ever seeing it before. It's quite lovely...
"Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can read." ~ Mark Twain
We can always use a little more kindness in this crazy world, don't you think?? And as I leave you, I wish each of you a day filled with unexpected kindness!

Has it seriously been a month???
I thought I was going to be better about posting on my blog, but somehow a month has passed. A few of you have let me know you miss my posts – thank you! That’s so sweet – and I’m sorry for being such a lazy, lazy blogger. I haven’t even made much time to read other blogs lately and I miss doing that.
I guess I haven’t felt compelled to write much lately. Not sure why. I’ve been feeling anxious a lot lately (like knots in my stomach anxious) and it makes it hard for me to focus on anything. I keep trying to step back and clear my head and just when I feel like things are clicking, something makes me anxious again. I hate that feeling. And I’m quite sure it’s not healthy.
Some of you are doing the Deck of Me challenges with Emily Falconbridge. I still plan to catch up at some point (I’m only 8 behind…it’s doable, right???). I think it was just last week that her prompt was to do one about someone or something you miss. And I know exactly what I would do my card about.
I miss the old me. I used to be so laid back – so easy going. People always used to tell me I smiled a lot. I’m not that laid back anymore. I feel like circumstances have changed me. I’m uptight a lot – uneasy – feel like I’m on my guard a lot. I hate it. I guess it’s up to me to change it, but that is easier said than done for so many reasons.
I probably sound like I’m feeling sorry for myself. I’m not. I have a great life in so many ways. My kids are amazing. I have wonderful relatives and friends. And I am grateful for my many blessings. I just wish I could change some things. I wish I could find the old me.
I will say the older, “wiser” me (not that I feel all that wise!) is more resilient for sure. And hopefully a little smarter and less worried about insignificant things.
Well – it appears I have rambled on and on when I thought I had nothing to say today (ha – that is so like me!). I will TRY to be a better blogger. I may even start posting quotes each day – just to get me in the habit of blogging again.
Hope you are enjoying the weekend! Until I post again – and I promise, it will be soon!
