Only in Wisconsin....

can you buy cheese with your fireworks. In fact, I think you can buy cheese just about anywhere in Wisconsin. There are random huge signs in many, many places that simply say -- "CHEESE". They are proud of their dairy products -- and they definitely should be. And trust me -- I am not making fun of Wisconsin. I love that part of the country. I'm from very northern Illinois -- only about 30 minutes from the Wisconsin border. This sign just made me laugh. A cheese-fireworks-gift shop. And a gas station to boot! Pretty impressive.

Yes, as you have probably deduced -- we were just in Wisconsin and Illinois. One of my many, many cousins got married (congrats Mike and Laura!) and we were there for a long weekend. We stayed with one of my uncles in Wisconsin and had a great time. I miss my family so darn much. When we get into that part of the country, it just feels like home. Even though I spent more of my life in Kansas than Illinois, I still get the feeling of home from going to Illinois. I guess because my early childhood memories of lots of aunts, uncles and cousins come from there. And most of my family is still in that area, with the exception of my mom, me and a few cousins.

I have more pictures to share in the next few days, but here's one more.

My baby turned four yesterday. *sniff* And this is how he spent the day -- strapped in a car seat -- for 12 long, tiring hours. Lucky for me, he didn't really know the difference. But as a not so subtle reminder he would burst into the Happy Birthday song off and on throughout the day. Singing to himself -- maybe to make it seem just a bit more festive. Bad Mommy that I am -- I haven't even gotten him a gift yet! We're hoping to do something special for him soon.

Okay -- it is now nearing the dinner hour and I have successfully avoided the mountains of laundry all day. I can't avoid them any longer, so for now I leave you. But have a great week -- and I hope to catch up with each of you very soon!

I love it! That reminds me of the store on my way home from Jackson that sells billiards and pools - how exactly do those two go together again? What a cute picture of your baby - happy birthday to him!!

I am glad that you got to be with your family. Happy Bday Nicholas.

And the pic is cracking me up. If I was ever to go to Wisconsin, this would be the same exact picture that I would take. SO funny!

Happy Birthday Nicholas!! sending lots of birthday wishes - and tell Mommy she owns you double serving of birthday cake and ice cream - wink!

I just seen the post for the Scene It game a couple of post below - I think we need that game here, how fun 80's music - dh would have a blast with that one - but if I have to hear him sing - it might be a little nerve wracking. LOL

Glad that you got to go on this trip-I think you would've of regretted not going. Hope your dh thinks it was worth it-so next time there will be debating about going-you just go. kwim

Rita! Yes I thought of you too actually last week when I stopped by Create My Keepsake and The Cottage... I haven't posted there in so long. I actually had stopped scrapbooking for about six months, I was lacking in creative energy and was resenting it, but I just bought my new camera and am wantin to start anew. I got rid of most of my supplies, all the "Excess" and just have the basics again. I needed to unload and really just start fresh with everything and it has gotten me excited to scrapbook for a change!!! I will have to read through your blog and catch up with all the events going on in your world. Thanks for thinking of me :) I feel so special! Hope you have a wonderful weekend... Love, Sarah

ok, just saw your other post :) I'm glad you understand... some of my friends think I am crazy for getting rid of all my excess supplies, but I actually think it was the best thing for me. Plus I helped out someone who is just starting out, and could use it better than I could... and yes I am IN LOVE with the camera. I was crazy not to buy it earlier! What kind of camera do you have?
